Yummy411: Thank you MMMH!

A few weeks ago I entered into Makeup Makes Me Happy's Bobbi Brown Makeup Manual Giveaway. Can you believe it!? I WAS ONE OF THE WINNERS! It arrived quickly to my mailbox. I ripped it open as fast as I could and also wanted to share it with you all.

Here's a preview and my thoughts on it!

The book includes step by steps,
Helpful color application tips,
Showing the beauty of blush (I'm a blush whore!)

Makeup on different ethnicities,

Goes from basic to advanced, showing makeup in photography,

Bridal makeup,

And advice on how to break into the business.

The book doesn't tell you everything, but gives you a good amount to go on. There are some tips that I like because you don't realize you need them until you've been practicing in makeup. I'm not even through all of these chapters because some I just look and absorb the pics! I'm so excited to have won this book! If you are starting out your makeup library, this is a solid buy. I can't compare this book to her other books because I don't own any of them. Great advice from a pro who lives and breathes natural, practical makeup.

Yummy411: CoverGirl AmazeMint Lipgloss; Winners

CoverGirl AmazeMint Lip Gloss- CoverGirl teamed up with Crest to add a peppermint flavor to their lip gloss for high shine and boost of freshness for a brighter smile!

There are 13 shades that come in this line with 3 shades offering blue undertones for a whiter smile (Plum Crazy, Un-wined, and Toast-ed). I tried 3 of the glosses most of them were fairly sheer with the exception of the deeper shade.

The formula is smooth (not sticky), like the original Wet Slick Gloss. What is different from the original WetSlick glosses is the peppermint flavor and the frosty cool cobalt tops!

My experience: The first two times I tried the gloss, I got a sensation that made me check the packaging again... Was this really a lip plumping gloss? After that, I settled in with the gloss, deciding that I really liked it and that it actually gave the uber popular glosses CO Bigelow Mentha Lip Tint a real run for their money. The slight difference? I would say that the CO Bigelow glosses have true mint flavor where as the CG glosses have a hint of a vanilla with the mint taste and smell. I do have to mention that one shade I tried, Everything's Rosy, gave my lips a very drying effect. Just me? Just my one tube? I don't know. My lips didn't have the same effect with the other colors.

If you are a CO Bigelow gloss champ like Slvrlips, then you'll definitely love this gloss.

Overall: Me likey! A+ My favorite shade is Freedom of Peach (a sheer nude peach with a touch of frost). There is something so addictive about peppermint gloss! Available in stores July!

Remember when Queen Latifah was holding her Cover Girl Online Casting Call? Well, the winners were picked and featured in Ebony magazine's June issue! Take a peek here!

Yummy411: Pink and Purple!

Lurve's purple and pink challenge is ending tomorrow and I couldn't decide how I wanted to work the colors. Surprisingly enough, I haven't worn pink and purple since... hmm? Since this day. So here's another stab. Hope you like it Lurve!

The sexy eye LOL! (I was actually deciding between this look and another.)

Here's how we get the look :

High lighter Moon Glow applied to brow bone.

From lid to crease apply MAC's Plum Dressing.

Layer it with a matte, light, blue based pink like MAC's Girlie.

Line the eye with a deep purple- Loreal HiP's Eggplant cream liner.

Go over the line and smudge with a deep purple like the liner (MAC's Violet Trance)

Blend the edges of the pink color above the crease.
Use Milani's Color Brilliance eye liner in Purple on bottom lid and waterline
Go over the purple liner on waterline with a black liner (MAC's Smoulder) *It turns a bluish purple!
Add a few coats of mascara.. Ta da! Done!

(I'm also wearing MAC's Viva Glam 5 lipstick and Sincere blush in these photos.)

The look is a bit less intense in daylight. It's a day time smokey that can easily sizzle at night. Besides it's quick and easy to do!
Lurve whatever you decide to wear, I know you'll look gorgeous! Have fun!
If anyone else decides to try this look, let me know!

Yummy411 Thanks you! + Heatherette Looks

I want to say thank you to all of you that voted for me a while back for Habitual Beauty's Holiday Giveaway. I won based on this look:

Thanks for making me a winner! Thanks HB! I won a MAC gift card and went Heatherette hauling (for some more stuff! lol)

***CAUTION! WARNING! If you are over, nauseated, tired, bored or all of the above with MAC's Heatherette collection, don't go any further!***

I picked up: trio 1 and the good girl lashes (I thought I was a bad girl, but I love the glitter reflects in the lashes.) I bought some staples like Woodwinked, Dollymix and Pink bronze pigment. However, the pink pearl pigment and 3d glitter are calling me back! (Got gold reflects glitter and some lippies already.) I swear I have a dupe for pink pearl pigment, but it's a powder and a bit more chalkier than going on smooth and shimmery. They were out of the liners (the Blue Pop one was on my list!)

I have not done an FOTD yet, though I had ideas. I haven't done one yet because I'm so dang busy looking at other blogs and youtube vids =( So here's what I found... some hotness! I love sgtigress, her looks and personality. I'm not quite the advocate of females calling each other bitches... but you gotta take the good with some bad. Lucky for us she did looks for both trios. Friggin A! I might have to go back for trio 2!

Trio 1

Trio 2

She shares my love of glitter (worn the good way, adding definition to her look.. did you see the glitter in my holiday fotd above?), paint pots, rhinestones, drama and she uses the mysterious 223 brush (that I bashed for a while)! I might have to get that too. Instead of doing nothing (like we said in our brush discussion hahaha), it may just blend enough, but leaves enough for definition in a look!

Hope you enjoyed and I hope to get to my posts up; the ones where I actually have to do more work like taking pics of stuff and uploading on the dreaded blogger.. womp womp.. until next time babes!

Yummy411: 1980's FOTD Challenge!

I was made in the 80's! Here's a review of American Cultural History 1980-1989!

This decade for me was The Baby-sitters Club, bamboo earrings, Gumby haircuts, being born into Hip Hop as a culture, two turntables and a microphone (reference this for images), Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, Silver Spoons, The Color Purple, ET, and the Goonies. Educational television was a positive trend: Schoolhouse Rock, Square 1, etc! Don't forget about the "Just say NO to drugs" campaign as the drugs ran rampid through many communities. Ok, now who remembers The Garbage Pail Kids?? What desire did we have to collect these cards, buying them from the ice cream truck with candy cigarettes.. why??? LOL! Terrible I tell you.

To commemorate this decade of good and bad, some beauty bloggers and myself challenged ourselves to replicate the makeup. Honestly, I wanted to explore and replicate makeup that was popular among many black women during that decade. I didn't find many images (also the women in my family didn't wear much makeup), but from what I remember the bottom lid was always lined and the red lipstick was always in tact! I took a bit from every where and put together a look that I may have worn had I been old enough to wear makeup LOL!

Make up used:

Face: Milani Even Toned Powder Foundation in Warm Sand 05

Cheeks: MAC Fashion Frenzy powder blush

Eyes: Jesse's Girl loose powder pigment (goldish green color) on lid, Loreal HiP creme liner (blue) to line top lid, MAC Prankster from Fafi Eyes 2 in outer corner and crease, Maybelline's Line Stylist in Sapphire Glimmer to line bottom lid and waterline

Lips: MAC Magenta liner with Milani Glitzy Gloss in First Class

Magazine Bow tie in hair: thanks to my 12 y/o sister!

To complete the look, I would be wearing a jean skirt with purple leggings, LA Gear sneakers with purple and pink slouch socks... you know we layered pink and purple on one foot and alternated on the other, with coordinating glitter laces, and yes, the LA gear tag hanging!

Yummy411: Queen Latifah and CoverGirl's Online Contest

Queen Latifah and CoverGirl are at it again! With such a great response from last year's Every Woman is a Queen contest, they are teaming up to do it again this year! This year's contest is a little different. To enter, you don't have to travel to a city that's no where near you because it will all be conducted online! That's right!

Queen Latifah is looking for everyday women of color, ages 18-48, to appear in an advertisement for the CoverGirl Queen Collection. Those wishing to be considered can log on to http://www.everywomanisaqueen.com/ to submit an entry from January 10th - 31st. All who enter will be required to submit a photo and a brief statement about why they feel that they too are a “Queen.” Queen Latifah will judge the online search and will select up to 5 winners to appear in a CoverGirl Queen Collection advertisement that will be featured in the June issue of Ebony magazine.

Last year, the fabulous ads were promoting the Natural Hue cream foundation from the Queen Collection. You all know how much I raved about that! This year? Wonderful lipsticks- Vibrant Hue Shine and Vibrant Hue Color! Vibrant Hue Shine gives lips a natural, high-gloss look. Virtually a gloss in stick form. Vibrant Hue Color offers rich, luxuriously creamy shades that last.

I got to check them out for myself!

Vibrant Hue Shine in Shiny CoCoa Bean and Shiny Sherry Shine

Swatches

Vibrant Hue Color in Bordeaux and Cherrylicious

Swatches

I'm more of the Vibrant Hue Color type of girl because I need color that packs a good punch! When using these, I would be sure to prime lips with moisturizer, concealer, lip primer, or whatever product you choose. The pigments may settle in fine lines, so give it a good canvas. Even though the Vibrant Hue Color lipsticks appear to be a touch matte, they are designed to lock in moisture by being infused with vitamins A and E and different emollients to keep your lips tender. Available in 12 rich shades. I can't wait to peek at the other colors available.

If you are more of the Vibrant Hue Shine type of girl, this lipstick may just be the formula for you. It's formulated with high shine properties to hold color and not disappear (or alter color); shiny brown should stay shiny brown. This lipstick offers 9 high shine shades.

I've been pleasantly pleased with the Queen collection line thus far and these additions keep up with the standard.

Give these babies a whirl, retailing at $5.99 a pop.
