Never Forget Why You Started with Erin Scandalous Beauty

Erin of Scandalous Beauty recently did a video answering questions for the YouTuber interview tag and gives us the deets on how she she got started and why she quit, gives us the low on jealousy and tips on how to keep going when your thirst (motivation) has dried up!

I love that she has been around since 2005, a staple in the blogosphere as the brown girls guru to makeup, and has remained on the scene still giving us fresh and interesting content. 

This interview tag video from Erin left me with words to keep on my heart... "never forget why you started." This resonates more with me now more than ever!

4 Favorite Summer Products

Instagram does it again!
I was tagged to show my 4 Favorite Summer products.
As I'm typing this up, I'm jamming to Karmin's (Karminmusic.com) Hello album ;)

 1.) MAC Nude on Board Pro Longwear Bronzing Powder (Hey, Sailor! collection Summer 2012 LE)
I love this bronzer! It's long lasting and perfect bronzing for days I don't want to wear foundation.  It's doesn't offer coverage like a powder foundation, but the beautiful neutral bronze tint and gold sheen is gorg. 

2.) MAC Equilibrium blush (MAC Me Over collection, Fall 2012 LE)
This blush is described as a light bronze.  It definitely falls into the same family as some of my other favorite MAC blushes such as Sweet as Cocoa and Get Away Bronze. Gorgeous bronze with some deep rose to it.

3.) MAC Whisper of Gilt MSF (Extra Dimension collection, Spring 2012 LE)
I'll have to admit, when I saw this I was skeptical.. it looks overly pigmented and wayyy too metallic for me as a face product. I ordered it anyway. Blame the MAC fanatic in me.  My sister pulled it out to play with it and I've been hooked ever since.  The beauty of this product is that it can me used to its full potential as an eye shadow or you can sheer it down so well for a gorgeous illuminator-- cheek highlighter, tear duct, slightly used all over (think mineralized satin finish foundation) or as a brow highlight.  For those of you that follow my blog know I don't use brow highlights outside of my concealer.

4.) Stila Sparkle Waterproof Liquid Liner in Rock Candy
I got this a while back when IMATS debuted in NY. And if you follow Yummy411 on FB you might have seen this picture:

Yes, I'm showing you better than I can tell you. Let the light hit the sparkles... fire!  Make it pop even more by using it over a black liner.  This can be a bit watery sometimes, but you go over it once or twice and you are good.  Once it sets, it doesn't move!  Ahh, I love this. Brown for me is the new black.

Nope.  When I was younger, I rebeled against violin and guitar lessons.  As the people around me told me, I do regret it.

As of right now, cell phone use while people are supposed to be out socializing with each other.

Hmmm a beard and a skirt worn together... it was not a kilt.

8. If you could live anywhere in the world, where would you live?
Somewhere where 65-70 degrees is the annual temp.

9. Do you believe in love at first sight?
No; sorry I'm jaded.

10. Do you sing in the shower?

Sometimes! I listen to the radio in the shower.

11. What is your best childhood memory?

One of them that comes to mind is having sleep overs with my cousin and sister and singing and laughing the night away.

BRONZER- Bronzer can be used as a blush and warms up your whole face!

LIPSTICK or LIP GLOSS?
LIPSTICK- There is a wide variety of the types of lipstick you can buy, stain your lips with a lipstick, sheer it down...lots of possibilies... There's more versatility here!

EYELINER or MASCARA?
MASCARA- Defining my lashes is more important to me than the liner (and y'all know that I LOVE me some liner!) In a pinch with the right tools, you can use mascara as liner!

FOUNDATION or CONCEALER?
CONCEALER- Actually they can be the same thing, but for all intents and purposes, I'm anal about my eyes and the places I conceal. I'll take the concealer!

NEUTRAL or COLOR EYESHADOW?
NEUTRAL- "At the end of the day" (lol) I can amp up some neutrals or tone them down, they match with any and everything and they are work appropriate!

LOOSE or PRESSED EYESHADOW?
PRESSED- Convenience factor.... if I want the color more concentrated, I can scrape some into a powder form and pack the color in!

BRUSHES or SPONGES?
BRUSHES- They haven't made a good blending eye shadow sponge, so I'll take brushes!

TAG: Desert Island Lips

"If you could only have one lipstick or gloss for the rest of your life what would it be?"

This is a TAG:

You are going to be cast away on a desert island, but you must maintain your fabulousness. The trick is, it can only be a lip product. What ONE lip colour could you happily live with for the rest of your days? This isn’t about your favourite or what’s haute at the moment. It should be something that doesn’t require lip liner or mixing with some other colour to make it look good. This should be a colour that you don’t have to think twice about because you know it will never fail to make you look flirty, bold or seductive every time you wear it. What would it be?

Here are the rules:

1. Choose your Desert Island Lip colour (lipstick, stain, lip pencil, OR gloss). Only one, please
2. Tell us why you’ve picked it (what makes it special, timeless, or the bomb)

My desert island pick is: MAC VIVA GLAM V LIPGLASS!

Colour: MAC calls it a neutral pink with pearl, but I would say it's a browned neutral pink with pearl. A fleshy neutral on me.

Why: A couple of reasons-- Viva Glam V was my first MAC love after Oh Baby! lipglass, it's part of the VIVA GLAM program, I'm a nude lip girl at heart, but this bit of pearl and a flesh toned lip product does my face and skin tone well... besides, it can be pretty universal!

The pic above isn't the 8th pic out of the 8th folder (as the rules ask for), but I kinda lost count after the different branches it took to get to this photo. This is a pic of the kid that he took of himself with my Blackberry. After not hearing my phone beep or ring for a bit, I'm sure to find a silly slide show of the kid's photography!.. but hehe, I enjoy them most times.

1.What shoe size are you?
11- there i said it! I used to be 10 borderline 11. I guess a few cupcakes later, I'm a complete 11.. no exceptions... except with some Nine West shoes and I love them ;)


2.Where do you work?
In DC's judicial system :s

3.Favorite piece of clothing you own
Hmmm, I'm enamoured with my two purple dresses...one is pretty and soft, the other is a bit more night on the town.. ow!

4.Your favorite blog?
Really? When I subscribe to fifty eleven hunnid?? iCan't. It's like picking a favorite family member or friend. You like them and love them for different reasons, all unique to them.

5.Do you have any pets?
I unofficially disown my tortuga... Don't tell the kid!

6.How many siblings do you have?
I have 3 siblings.. all sisters. How could a girl be so lucky?

7.If you could live anywhere where would it be?
In a house with a wrap around porch in a mid size town, with easy traffic and moderate temps and a great school system! :D


8.What were you doing before this?
Making sure the car wasn't getting towed, feeding the kid dinner and helping my dad with his online banking.. I multi task!

9.Your favorite food?
Icecream or Tangysweet frozen yogurt


10.Do you have a middle name?
Yes. Most of my dad's siblings don't have middle names, but I was named after one of them that actually has a middle name. It's a mash-up of my grandmother's name and her dad's name. I like carrying on the history even if it is a weird name!

11.Your favorite websites?
Specktra will always be a fave, but this again is a difficult question since my internet time is consumed with blogs and not actual sites.

1. I LOVE apples.. the fruit, but it's not a big deal to me to have apple pie, apple crisp, cinnamon apples or any of the varieties of apple outside of its natural state. My favorites are: Golden Delicious, Pink Ladies, and (my new found love) Honey Crisp. Not crazy about the others....

2. My favorite season is Fall... coats, boots, hats, scarves, tights... ahhhh! Look at the tights Ambika found!!!

Eyeshadow- MAC Expensive Pink? I don't really do pink shadows, but I think Expensive Pink was my first pink shadow that I bought.

Blush- MAC Dame. One of my most recent favorites. There's a lot more. I went through looking for a great pink blush like one searches for their perfect red lipstick.
Lip gloss- Viva Glam V lipglass. The ultimate, best, pink nude ever. Pretty versatile on most skin tones!

Lipstick-Viva Glam V lipstick- same goes for the lipstick! In lustre formula so you don't have to be scurrred. Light with a bit more opacity than other lustres.

Any other Product- my lip gloss pouch. A free gift with purchase from Lancome. The best gift ever. Keeps all of my lipglass and glosses, lipsticks, and lip conditioner all together in my purse!

This year is so important for us as a whole. Our economy is going down, things are headed for the worst and we need change. I encourage people to actively participate in our democracy and effect change! In this spirit, some bloggers and I have gotten together to do FOTD's for this cause. Yes we are beautiful, we are on the computer (alot!), but we are also involved in our communities and are aware of what's going on around us.

During the DNC, I felt proud of my country, proud of Obama and proud of my people! We can do it y'all! Barack the vote! (Where's my t-shirt man?!)
