Yummy411: Makeup and Allergies!

(Check this article from which I got the image!)

Lucky for you if you haven't had your allergies attack yet or even have allergies at all! There are a lot of us beauty addicts that have allergies and seem to not make it through these seasons very well. My good friend Slvrlips (Nikkia) covered this topic already (excellent read by the way), but being the chronic allergy sufferer that I am, I would be remissed if I didn't dedicate a post to this also.

Here is my list of allergy and beauty survival must haves/tips:

1. Zyrtec D- like Nikkia, this medicine is all that and then some, especially for someone that has gone through Allegra, Claritin and the likes. This is my all time knock out! Stops the itchy and runny eyes, nose and throat, relieves congestion. Works quickly for a little pill too!

2. Veramyst nasal spray- in conjunction with the Zyrtec, the clouds open and I hear angels singing. Much better than Flonase which has a floral scent... what type of devil trickery is that?*

3. Lip conditioner- blowing and sneezing get my lips very dry, so I like to soothe them with MAC's lip conditioner. I know this stuff is expensive, but it works like a charm. I love the thick, menthol formula of Carmex, Blistex and other varieties, but none has had a longer effect on soothing chapped lips like this lip conditioner. Others give a temporary cover-up until next application.

4. Waterproof mascara (L'Oreal Voluminous)- I know we don't like putting anything on our eyes when we are feeling bad like this, but if it is a must, it must be waterproof! Get it in my favorite mascara, L'Oreal Voluminous.

5. Mint tea- just plain soothing

6. Lotion/anti-bacterial Kleenex- soothes while doing the job. I haven't found any pocket packs, but I know they MUST exist!

7. Hand sanitizer- Purell

8. Ben Nye's Final Seal- I know we will be wiping, etc, but give your face a good spray of this and chances are if you are delicate and conscious of your makeup, you won't totally wipe it all away.

9. Waterproof liners and basing eye makeup with a great primer: Urban Decay Primer Potion or even a mixing medium.

10. WATER! try not to get too full and it becomes a problem in conjunction with the sneezing..oops!

[ETA] 11. Patinol eye drops- Delphine reminded me of the itchy eye problem. Zyrtec will clear this up, but if you don't use Zyrtec, Patinol the prescription eye drops are THEBOMB.COM! Regular Visine will work, but it takes a few minutes to work and then I'm still walking around with somewhat of red and crusty, slightly irritated eyes. A drop or two of Patinol clears up the worst of itchy eyes and will have you saying "what about itchy eyes?" in less than 3 minutes or less! Second best to Patinol, Zatidor (OTC eye drops).

(For prescriptions and over the counter medicines be sure to look online for coupons and discounts!)

* So I couldn't sing the praises of any nasal spray until I learned how to use one properly. Sounds like a no brainer? Gee thanks! LOL I just couldn't get the hang of it. My ENT specialist would use his office tool to spray in my nose and then let me blow after. I thought that's how it should work at home with my handheld prescription dispenser...no ma'am!

Steps for using a pump bottle:
-Gently blow your nose to clear it of mucus before using the medication.
-Remove the cap. Shake the bottle. The first time you use the pump spray each day, you may have to "prime" it by squirting a few times into the air until a fine mist comes out.
-Tilt your head forward slightly. Breathe out slowly.
-Hold the pump bottle with your thumb at the bottom and your index and middle fingers on top.
-Use a finger on your other hand to close your nostril on the side not receiving the medication (see the drawing on the right).
-Squeeze the pump as you begin to breathe in slowly through your nose. Repeat these steps for the other nostril. If you are using more than one spray in each nostril, follow all these steps again.
-Try not to sneeze or blow your nose just after using the spray.

I got the above information from FamilyDoctor.org. Check the article out to get more information and helpful hints.

Yummy411: Consume Consciously + FOTD!

Dear readers, I love Nireyna, this you all might already know. This FOTD was inspired by one of her recent looks (w/ tutorial). I don't have her eye shape, so I didn't follow her instructions completely. However, I gathered as many close colors as possible and tried to do something similar. I love it, I hope you all like it!

Face: Strobe lotion (I'll have to place this stuff carefully as it can look sweaty )= ), MSF Natural loose in medium dark--AGAIN, I HATE THE PACKAGING OF THIS STUFF!!!!

Cheeks: Eversun Beauty Powder Blush (I hate that it looks a bit unblended on camera.)

Eyes: UDPP, Otherworldly paint pot on lid, Red Earth's Acid 2 on lid, Jesse's Girl eye dust (in greenish-gold similar to MAC's Old Gold pigment) and Soft Brown e/s in crease, outer v Atlantic Blue (MAC Pro?) e/s, Pure Luxe's Moon Glow for highlight and Nicka's white e/s lightly at tear duct, Milani's Color Brilliance eye pencil in Aqua on lower lid and Smoulder eye liner on water line and to line top lid. Maybelline's XXL Volume Curl and L'Oreal Voluminous Carbon Black on lashes!

Lips: Buoy -o-buoy lipstick! (This might be my perfect nude. It looks more pink in pictures, but really it's better than Bare Slimshine lipstick in that it's not as 'moisturizing' or as pink.) It looks like I may or may not be wearing lipstick.

Yummy411: New Poll Question

Hey family!

I haven't had a poll question in a while, so I just put up a new one (over on my sidebar): Do you wear makeup to the gym or to workout?

I wanted to know what other people do. Before, when I'd head to the gym I used to wear a powder, gloss and mascara. It wasn't much, so I didn't worry. The only reason I had those items on to begin with is because I was already wearing those products for the day. Now that it's cooler and I've discovered a new makeup routine and interests, I feel odd wearing it to the gym (umm now that I'm trying to start back up, lol.) I don't have much time to take it all off before heading back out. So my makeup isn't vanity, just more of a time issue. What about you all? Let me know in the comments! Don't forget to vote!

I found this cute article for some tips! Check it out here.

Winter Regimen

The cold is in the air and a new winter regimen is in order!
I'm experiencing winter like never before- dry, itchy skin, chapped lips, dry hands, feet and cuticles.. let's not mention the hair! Searching around for advice from beauty blogger friends, here's what I've come up with:

Starting with diet, Ivy at Are You a Beauty shares with us what we can put in our diet to keep healthy skin.

Over at Lipstick, Powder and Paint we get tips on keeping a healthy fresh face during the winter months. (check! face and lips)

For official pampering without salon prices BeyondBlushing has a great guide to give yourself a home facial! (check! more good face stuff)

For overall skin care, Bon Bons in the Bath has tips! (check! combat the dry, itchy skin)

Dry feet! Product Girl recommends Soul Owner foot cream and about.com gives some great recommendations. (check! feet)

Dry Hands! Paula of Paula's Choice shares her recommendations. (check! hands)

Overall, the main message is moisture!
  • Drink lots of fluids and water.
  • Infuse your skin with moisture products when washing and after (how much depends on skin type.)
  • Use a good balm to seal moisture in and protect it from outside agents.

Stay tuned for other recommended products and reviews from this venture!

Look out!

Be yummy about yourself inside and out! The Human Pampillomavirus is a sexually transmitted disease that can cause cancer. It is important to be tested and to monitor your health. The cancer can cause a variety of complications to your health as well as infertility. HPV happens to women of all ages. It's very necessary and easy to ask your doctor for the test. Now, the FDA has approved an HPV vaccine. You can get the vaccine if you don't have the virus. Inquire about the vaccine with your doctor as well! Tell everyone about it!

L-A-M-B.com

Yummy took a browse through Gwen Stefani's website for her clothing line at l-a-m-b.com, since there is a lot of hoopla about how her line is overall doing much better than Sean John. What a surprise! So of course, you have to get the review on her collection and line from yummy411. The website is fun, trendy and has that retro feel.... as if the same web designers that hail from Urban Outfitters has come to lend a hand. The selection is small like most of the celebrity lines (ahem, House of Dereon.) There is a page on the site that shows items featured in magazines from the lamb collection (the typical "as seen in" deal) that boasts shopping on the web. I saw a crazy hot jacket that I couldn't even find online! tisk tisk.... She's doing doing her thing, definitely, by creating a line for those of us that identify her by her sense of style... trendy, rock, edgy and boundless. Disappointingly, many of the items are track jackets, pants and canvas loafers (the rave of the summer,) but very cliche for Stefani's line. We really wanted the Japanese girls to help pump up the fashion. It is rumored that the truth behind her absence at the VMA's is because of the demand for her line to make it in Fashion Week. Her fans really must be obsessed for this stuff to go so far in the markets. Prices are for the casual LA and NYC shopper, but not for the practical mall rat. Yummy will skip and be a Sean John fan. (Puff, what's up with your ladies' line?)

(yes this is a woman's shoe!)
