Go Mommy Go!: Maybelline Color Tattoos

Ahh! It's been quite a while since I've done one of these posts.  Welcome back.  My Go Mommy Go! series is a series of posts showcasing products, tips, tricks, and topics of discussion to help moms on the go and busy women alike work makeup into their high speed routines to stay fabulous.

I'm sure you've heard so much about the new Maybelline Color Tattoos ($6-$8, varies by retailer).  If not, read on:  They are the drugstore version of MAC paint pots.  I'm a big paint pot fan as well as a huge fan of Make Up For Ever Aqua Cream colors.  Both of the higher end lines offer cream shadows that stay put throughout daily wear.  They can be used as a lid color or eye shadow base.  Multi-tasking products? Major bonus.  You can now get all of this is a drugstore line.  Yes, go and get these.  You need them.

Maybelline offers ten colors ranging in a few neutrals to colorful shades.  Heres's what Maybelline says:
"Dare to wear our longest-lasting shadow. Our ink technology creates super-saturated color.
Cream gel smoothes on for vibrant color that does not fade"

I picked up Tough as Taupe (cream), Painted Purple (cream), Fierce and Tangy (cream) and Edgy Emerald (cream)

Since starting this post, I've picked up more everyday wearable colors such as Pomegranate Punk (soft cranberry color with slight shimmer) and Bad to the Bronze (soft bronze shimmer).  I'm missing the Too Cool (white), Bold Gold (soft yellow gold shimmer) and Audacious Asphalt (silver shimmer).  I use pomegranate punk and bad to the bronze often.  Move over paint pots!  These offer an easy, fool proof way to add color and the effect (when I applied with my fingers) isn't over the top, but work appropriate.

I have yet to try these particular products, however, I have used and continue to use the Big Cover Up by Cover FX. Revlon Beyond Natural Smoothing Primer

I recently picked this product up after much debate and eyeing it for a while. In another post's comments I was asked about it. Here's what I have to say:

I like it!
Why: I never had problems with my pores, lines or wrinkles, but recently when wearing powder blush, I could see the 'wide open' pores and my cheeks looked grainy. After using this, the pores were less noticeable and my skin looked smooth. Yes! Mission accomplished. The formula is light, lightly scented and available at the drugstore for a reasonable price. You get a .85 oz bottle for about $12-13. The product may not absorb instantly i nto the skin upon application, but given a few seconds (1 min or 2) the product dries nicely and melds into the skin for a smooth surface! Another reason I like it: I was trying out Maybelline's liquid mineral foundation that I primed with this Revlon primer. I was caught in the rain and I knew that I was surely dripping liquid foundation ewww! I tried to blot my face lightly and hopefully didn't appear to be an uneven mess. When I checked the mirror, I still appeared to have some even decent coverage. Was it the primer that helped? Not positive, but I sure think so!

I don't have the Monistat Chafing gel or the Smashbox primer to compare it to. When I did try the Smashbox's infamous primer, I didn't have any real concerns for the primer to address-- again those lines, pores, wrinkles AND the fact that I wasn't into foundation really at that point. Then, I felt as if I was just adding another unnecessary layer of face products to my face.

If you are in the market for a decent primer that can be found at the drugstore give this a try. This seems ideal for people with dry to normal/combination skin. If you are oily and still want to use them, try following up your foundation with blot powder. I'm unsure if this makes you any oilier than you may already be. My nose gets super oily, but didn't appear any oilier because of this product. Besides, it's Winter.

Yummy411: Uninspired, Events, Fotd's

So, I know this was holiday weekend for most people, but since I'm not out of town or doing anything lavishly (shopping, etc.) I'm at home, looking for beauty blog updates. Why? Because right now, I'm in a slump and need inspiration. I know I get in these slumps where I'm not inspired by my mags or makeup, etc., but this one's lasting longer than usual. I was on a makeup shopping fast and I couldn't have done it at a more inconvenient time: Holiday season! Well, I didn't have much of a choice since my money would be super tied up with tuition and LIFE!

Now, I've found bigger reasons to explain why I'm in my slump that will take more time than I'd like to resolve. The two main reasons that I feel I've fallen into this slump: organization and weight loss. *gulp* There, I said it. I won't go into details to save myself some dignity. Just know that birth control is a bitch! ugly monster with a thick, black unibrow... As if I had already been winning the war against the weight on my own. Thanks!



I think this all started back a little after I went to see American Gangster. Great movie, great Denzel performance, but the reality of it all went straight to my stomach and I had knots for two days!
Here's my fotd (on the right) from the night I went to see the movie. I actually liked this makeup, but it was all down hill from here.

Next exciting event, I went to the Nordstrom's Cosmetics Trend Show. It was my first time there, though I truly believe I've walked through many of the shopping escapades after a trend show. Waking up at 7am to get to a 7:30am show has never been so much fun. Little breakfast boxes were handed out and a cosmetic gift for attending: a cute, small, soft gun metal traincase. Inside were samples of perfumes and facial products. I had an appointment with Smashbox Cosmetics. The artist was fun to work with and she gave me a simple look with their products. I can't say I was wow-ed, but it was nice to be made over.

The nice, fun and down to earth artist gave me a look using the Photo Finish Foundation Primer Light , eye brightner under my eyes, their liquid foundation High Definition Healthy FX mixed with Artificial Light in Prism (the first product that made me fall in love with Smashbox, concealer (on top of the under eye brightner)- Camera Ready Full Coverage Concealer, AND a little powder foundation. All of it felt lightweight and surprised me as products I would consider taking home. For the look, she used the Fusion Eye and Cheek Palette in Reflect (cool toned colors) from the Beyond Beauty Collection. Three colors on my eyes and a sweep across the cheek palette for my cheeks. She used the Brow Tech in Brunette, which she actually did a good job. Of course, I had to fill in the front of my brows for my desired square shape. During makeover, I'm very apprehensive about my under eye circles and brows =( To line the top lid she used the black waterproof liner and my crease color was used as my bottom liner. Mascara topped off the job. For lips, she used one of their sheer liners and a little gloss.

Again, I wasn't amazed by any color or application technique (which I'm usually looking forward to seeing) but the colors were all smooth, well blended and she applied my crease color with great placement for my eye shape. I think I do too much with my crease color sometimes and my brow bone hangs over giving me an undesired shape to my eye color. Sorry, you may not even notice, but I think that's my own quirk with my work and why I haven't been feeling too hot about my fotds.

To give a little spice to my eye game, I thought... okay, let me try MAC's Uppity fluidliner AGAIN. This Uppity fluidliner gets on my last, damn nerve! The consistancy is thinner than the other fluidliners. How am I supposed to use it? I was told to put it over a black liner, which is what I was doing here, but it looks so messy to me. Then from a short distance, it's barely noticeable =(( I had high hopes. Return or not to return? Help!?



On Thanksgiving, I gave it another try as a base. I only used it over concealer to ensure a smooth application. It looked nice to me. Definitely happier about it as a base than a liner. (No lipgloss= ashy lips= not a good look, lol)

Up close, it still looks choppy and chalky... ew! oh well! =((((((((((((( It reminds me of my Urban Decay Primer Potion, making some of my shadows look a little choppy and hard as hell to blend! Karen warned me about the UDPP, but I was convinced that I had either used to much or didn't let it dry properly.

Lastly, I'm loving the pigmentation of these Wet 'N' Wild trio palettes. I've gotten 3 of the 6 that are available. Here's an example of what they are like with only concealer being used as a base. Of course, I don't like this fotd either =( I also have on some of their Winter Holiday Illuminating Powder all over my face. (Can we say drugstore beauty powder??) I bought it in the spirit that I can't afford MAC's stuff right now =/ Did you guys know that Wet 'N' Wild is a cruelty free company.... extra brownie points!!!

I check the mail and see that I've gotten an evelope from MAC! Could it be, would it be what I've been hoping for? An invitation AT LEAST to a private launch party? NOPE! Just as my luck would have it, no invitation. A promo for the Stylistics Collection.

Even though I get in these slumps and I'm uninspired by makeup and pictures or whatever else is out there in the world making me groggy and no fun.... I always have a reason to smile =)

5 Min Makeover

My friend Kris I. is a minimalist when it comes to makeup. She keeps her hair on point, can step out in a killer pump, but doesn't feel comfortable applying makeup. During a little downtime today, I showed Kris what she could do quickly in the morning to add a little umph to her look.

Here's Kris:


Now doesn't she have the best set of lashes??
1. We applied a primer to her face (to hold the makeup in tact.)


2. Based her lid with concealer (to keep the shadow from sliding and creasing and to pop the color.)


3. Applied MAC eyeshadow Girlie to 3/4 of lid starting from inner corner. Then, on the outer lid I used MAC Cranberry.


4. I lined her eye with MAC Earthline technakohl liner.


5. She applied CoverGirl Lash Exact to her lashes.


6. I dusted over her t zone and cheeks with Victoria's Secret Very Sexy Mosaic Bronzer Blush.

7. She used her own Victoria Secret potted gloss (in a lovely pink shade.)

MAC NEWS and Wishlist

Right now, I'm loving prep+prime skin. It makes your skin feel so soft and silky. Besides, it makes your makeup last all day. Special bonus: light reflecting particles (light shimmer to give your overcoat of foundation a dewy glow).

MAC select coverup concealer has replaced my select moisturecover concealer. The moisturecover glides on nicely and as its name suggests, provides moisture. The moisture makes the concealer very light, but my bags need more. This is where the select coverup comes in. It gives me just a little more. Not over-powering, but just a little more coverage with a little less moisture.

On my wishlist: MAC mineralize satinfinish. This looks sooo yummy. I can't wait to get to the MAC store! Light to medium buildable coverage, a seamless finish (highly blendable!) with light reflecting particles. When they say a dewy foundation, this is the truth! I sampled some on the back of my hand. The hand won't always reveal the true color, but what I saw was near impeccable. The formula blended into my skin, didn't feel dry and had a healthy radiance. I can't wait to get it on my face. I love a complete, neat and fresh canvas for makeup. Next, I want the Beauty Burst e/s. This is a vibrant shade of brown with a little red in it. I have other browns, but they are smogged and muted. This brown is intensified with more pigment, so better color payoff. Iridescent powders are turning into an obsession. I'd like to try Belightful...simply to add to the collection. I'd like to backtrack and revisit the Racquel Welch Icon collection. I need to investigate Yogamode beauty powder and the Sweet and Shy and Orange Twink glimmershimmers. I didn't realize how soft and elegant the colors are. Some are so soft they don't show up, but the products I mentioned seem to be worth a second look. (I totally wasn't interested at first. Just like the Mystery Powder from the Couture collection. Do they even still have it? yikes!) Lastly, I need brush #217 or #222. I can't remember which, but let me tell you, when the brush touched my eye, it was the most pleasant pampering. Now, I only know this because of a bad experience. When I started experimenting with my shading and blending brushes, I used a crease brush that wore my eyes out! I didn't realize until I was done. When I went to remove my makeup with my gentle makeup remover, it stung like hell. I had two sore red eyes for two days. Now, I know the difference and can really appreciate this brush by MAC. (Does Sephora carry a cheaper and comparable version? Anyone know?)

Can I get the MAC discount card. This is getting out of hand. Don't get me started on the Balloonancy collection =(
... ok or the Strange Hybrid collection... *sigh*

I went downtown to visit the MAC counter for a Barbie makeover. As I presumed, they would run out of everything (mainly the lipsticks and lipglasses). So I got a makeover, but not in the way that Barbie Loves MAC ;)

Colors used: cork in eyebrows and a little Boy Girl brow gel/set; select coverup in nc30 as browhighlight; nw45 on lid -primer- and undereye; Springtime Skipper e/s from lashline to crease; Beauty burst in outercorner and crease; Rule eyeshadow in innercrease and as a liner; a violet shade for lower lashline; a touch of magic dust for my inner corners; zoom lash mascara; a bit of style blush on cheeks, Star iridescent powder on face; random gloss - the lip style was eaten off by the time I took these pics. I loved this look! It looked totally glam when I went out. The look was bold without bold colors. Fab if I may say so myself.)
