Roxanna Floyd, a beautiful legacy

Celebrity makeup artist to mega stars like Whitney Houston, Halle Berry, Mary J. Blige and Lauryn Hill, Roxanna Floyd died at home on January 28th at the age of 49. While her family is still yet to release details, reports say the beauty expert passed in her sleep.

"Roxi" – as the makeup artist was known – began her career as a Macy's sales associate, studied makeup at the Robert Fiance Beauty Institute, and then worked her way into a freelance artist career where she landed Yoko Ono as her first celeb client. After Ono's personal recommendation, Floyd's career blasted off.

I'm deeply saddened by this news. I was on Twitter late night of January 28th when Monica (singer) first tweeted the news as Roxanna did makeup for her as well. I wanted details because I wondered how and why?? What could claim her life at such a young age? I remember passing up an opportunity to take a class taught by her, only to find out who she was after the fact. She was the artist behind the beautiful Queen Latifah commercials and ads for CoverGirl Queen collection that I was so in love with! She's also one of the notable artists that creates beautiful black faces for the covers of Essence magazine, something I aspire to do. I honor her legacy this Black History Month.
