Yummy411: Hair Post!

Here's the hair... ahhh nicely twisted. Coming along eh? Here's detail.. stretched out and you can see the old twists and buds (puffs of new growth in between the twisted new growth.)
This is how the ends of my hair look. Not quite formed into a loc. It may appear to be so from the pic, but actually it's a partially twisted, tangled puff! It's a bit nerve wrecking to see that they are so loose. I'm getting anxious because I really want to see a completely formed and bonded loc, but different stages for different people. Are my locs in the 'teenage stage'?
More untwisted, unlocked madness laying around my head.
Oh well. This time, I got a good scrub on the scalp. My beautician interlocked my hair and retwisted it using Jamaican Loc Gel. (I believe)

It can be frustrating, but the more I see different things and I learn about what's going on, it's pretty interesting. I have to think positively- to keep my patience and know that I'm getting there. Also, because most people that don't know about the process (most of the people in my environment) only know of locs as complete, mature locs that we usually see in pictures. So to those people, my locs are seeming to form incorrectly or look funny. This process is teaching me patience and perseverance and a bit of self acceptance, which I already thought I had from nursing, being a mother, etc. It can be difficult to look at myself and love all of the new growth under the baby locs. Every two weeks $60+ at the salon is for the birds.... but I can't feel that way and want a beautician to maintain my locs until they've matured =/

The journey continues........

Throw back- Remember this?

awww i remember that stage lol. they are definitely coming along nicely tho. Theres always gonna be a random lock that has a mind of its own, mine is near my temple that seems to have grown longer than those near it lol. In the 4 yrs ive had my hair, Ive been to the salon prob 4 times. I maintain it myself just cuz i wanna save me some dough for my MAC addiction lol. I use the Jamaican Mango & Lime products, the shampoo, leave-in conditioner and oil. When I twist i use Organic Root Stimulator Lock and Twist Gel. Its nice and light weight and doesnt leave buildup in your hair. Ima try to do a post on the products I use. Having locs will definitely teach you patience :) If u have any questions or anything I'll help u out best I can :)

msbutterfli, thank you so much for sharing those products! i agree with you, i'd much rather have money for makeup than messing with my damn hair! i hope i learn to maintain my hair well.... hey how long did your locks grow the first time? how do you determine how big they'll be? i'm sure parting/sectioning matters, but doesn't your hair type contribute to the size as well? i guess only time will really tell....

Everyone is doing hair posts, yeahhhh!

I've always been fascinated with locs, I just don't know if they would look right on me. Plus I love my loose, nappy hair too much.

@ cassandra: thanks hon!!

@ afrodite: yes, we all are! so exciting to see what people use, how they are keeping their hair beautiful.

i'm not sure what they'll exactly look like on me, but maintaining my natural hair (unlocked) was quite a challenge for me, so i went the locs route.

Those are nice. I can't do locks. I thought about it but I like to change too much. Twists, twist outs, afro, cornrows, hot press and lots of wigs:) I'm bored after a couple of weeks:) I did my own micros last summer and I might put them in again. It took 5 hrs :(
