Yummy411: Coastal Scents Italian Badger Buffer Brush Large, Duo Fibre Stippling Brush

Lovelies! How are you all? Great!

So, I've been slowly introducing my Coastal Scents brushes on the blog and I'm happy to tell you all about the Large Italian Badger Buffer Brush. I've been nervous about it because from what I recall, I've heard that the badger brushes are typically smelly and particularly this one from Coastal Scents bleeds tremendously when being washed. I said I would wash it when all of my other brushes were due for a good cleaning and conditioning. Last night was my opportunity.

Initially, out of the plastic, the brush was nice and soft and didn't really have a bad smell. My thorough wash and condition left it in good shape. No terrible bleeding and it didn't smell after having contact with water. As an alternative to the sock sponge that comes with MAC's Mineralize Skinfinish Natural Loose Powder Foundation, I'm looking forward to using this to buff in the powder. I like this brush so much (so far...) that I actually want MORE badger brushes from Coastal Scents (yum! the badger kabuki!). They have a mini badger brush set that I wanted, but bought the Supreme Synthetic Brush set instead (meh).

I also washed my broken duo fiber stippling brush. I still had plans to salvage the brush with a good wash and some super glue.
*grimace*
This brush DID NOT past my test! I was scrubbing and had to have washed it 4 times! Non stop gray suds and a eerie funky smell! I had to retire that job and will have to revisit at some other time. After it dried, I had some funny residue on my hands. I washed this brush with shampoo, a bit of anti-bac dish liquid and a bit of alcohol. I don't know what's up with this one, but I would definitely not recommend it. I'm really disappointed. Most people had complaints about the long, slender handle. Another duo fiber stippling brush with a handle more closely resembling a MAC's #187, or their own pink handled duo fibre stippling brush was recently introduced. I would try another one =/.

Eeek! Oh no! I ordered this brush, (along with the pink-haired Kabuki). Coastal Scents probably won't even let me return it. Ah well.

hey mandypandy! you ordered the duo fibre stippling brush? the one i have with the long slender handle seems to be no longer available on the CS website. some of the products seem to be hit or miss. koren (of enkore makeup) really loves his. someone else reviewed (i believe) the badger brush and said that it bled to death, however i love mine. ohhh you ordered the pink kabuki. i must review tonite just for you!

Hi Kia!

I just got my package this afternoon (like, 10-15 minutes ago)!!! The instruction label said to wash the brushes before use (total hassel) so I washed them; they didn't bleed at all but they kinda smell a bit like nail polish remover when I took a whiff. Not sure if that's normal...

They did shed as well, but far less than any of my 187 brushes ever did during their first washing.

I was thinking about the badger brushes but I will until the makeup show to buy brushes..

I live in NY and NJ... I think we all should hang out and then maybe do lunch or dinner after the makeup show.. Let me know I will give u my cellphone number.

I have the pink duo fiber stippling brush and mine bleed like crazy when I washed it. It took a minute for the water to run clear but it had no smell during or after the wash. I don't use it much since it sheds all over the place.

I also have the flat top bronzer brush and it literally smelled like a carcass when I got it. I washed it and it still smelled. Thank God for Enkore's deodorizing solution. It's the only thing that got the smell out.

I think the brushes are hit or miss but I do want to try their new synthetic brushes.

What, it doesn't smell like badger? :P Hehe sorry, couldn't resist.

That duo fibre brush seems to be rather unpopular, huh? I'm kind of glad I didn't order from CS, although it's not like I needed more brushes anyway!

@ mandypandy: great! i can't wait for your review! yeh i was trying to give them a good wash before using them, but some passed my test and some didn't. oh, no shedding for me either with the CS brush..one positive! my 187 still sheds!

please i'm so curious as to what your pink kabuki is like to compare with my untold (yet) experience.

@ seymone: def report back as to what you acquire while at the show.. cell phone vid would be cool too ;)

@ suziec: i'm sorry that this happened to you, but i was feeling bad about my review knowing that i was the only one with this prob with the duo fibre stippling brush. see it is hit or miss-- mine didn't shed at all. i don't have the new synthetic brushes, but i have the old set. i'll have to be sure to review them for you.

@ emily @ gmm: LOL..yeh...but for me the badger brush(es) are awesome!

Hmmm...thanks for the tip! I've actually never used any other brushes besides MAC ones. I guess all brushes are not created equally! :-)

I'm with Ren Ren...I definitely can't put down too much money for beauty with my moving too. I'm a little disappointed now about the brushes that I planned on getting. WTF is up with this "smell"? CS need to get right.

how do you like the milani eyeshadow palette? do you think the colors are pigmented like the regular shadows? i have the individual shadows but not the little palette i'm giving away.

@ ren: i do want another, but it seems that they are so hit and miss. i'm willing to give them just one more chance. especially since i think i'm already going to order more badger brushes. good luck with the move.. it's bittersweet, but a whole lotta fun too!

@ BGG: no all brushes are created equal, but don't let that deter you from trying other brands. if you got what you need in MAC, great. if not, don't be afraid to venture out (sephora, smashbox, adesign, art brushes, sinful cosmetics, nyx, etc.! ....)

@ divine blackness: girl i dunno! LOL.. def waiting on your review!

@ spankedelic: hi! i don't have that particular palette persay, but i do have other milani palettes. if they are anything like the regular quad palettes... they are great!

Thanks for the review on these brushes! I was on the fence for CS because I've heard good and bad reviews on it. Luckily I don't need anymore brushes:)

distinque, you are welcome! if you ever decide, badger seems the way to go!
