Yummy411: Product Review Carol's Daughter

Carol's Daughter's line of bath and body products as well as hair care items has expanded from a home grown business to a well known brand on store shelves of such beauty havens like Sephora and has even made it to the hands of huge celebs fans! Now in my hands, I have two products to happily review!

Unscented Body Jelly comes in a huge 16oz. jar. A great vegetable alternative to petroleum jelly. Petroleum jelly leaves a thick, greasy coating unlike it's new nemesis, the Body Jelly. This product in contrast has a light weight formula that's absorbed into the skin. As an unscented product, you can be moisturized and layer it with your other body products.

The body jelly felt soothing, but without layering it with a moisturizing soap or something more, my dry skin became thirsty after the duration of a day in cold winter temperatures when it's most problematic. However, I got overwhelming praise from my sister, the mommy -to- be, on the many uses of the body jelly. While pregnancy brings on a host of problems, she's been able to steer clear of too many skin issues. This is great for normal to slightly dry skin. For severe dry skin like mine, especially during winter months, it's a great layering moisturizer and should use frequently to prevent dry out. Try other CD bath products to add moisture for a great skincare regimen!

Yum! Next up is the Mango Melange Shea Souffle. I'm all about tropical scented products, except insanely sweet sun block lotions. When I read that mango, patchouli, vanilla and creamy coconut were involved, I knew I'd be interested. Shea butter is highly moisturizing, so I was excited to have it in the form of a souffle; feels luxurious. This one doesn't just have a 16oz. version, but a 4 oz. as well. I like it as hand lotion and the small jar fits into my purse or work tote.

I'm excited about the line and all the buzz about it. Stay tuned as I have more to let you all know about!

My mother just bought the Almond scented Souffle and the spray...I bought her the Shower gel back in September and she absolutely loved it! But I'm now I'm finding that although I love the flavorful scent, my allergies can't take it! :( Yeah, it's rather disheartening it, but I'd recommend it to anyone that wants to smell uniquely delicious!

keshajo, really? i have horrible allergies too.. the skin, allergies all that stuff is intertwined. i believe antoinette has some products with that scent. i'll have to try that scent and see what's what. thanks for the heads up.

I don't know why I've never even seen these products at the CD store and I've been going to the flagship one here in Los Angeles. Hmmm.....I absolutely love items with shea butter in it (for hair and skin) so I'm going to definitely have to try the Mango yummy stuff out.

Peace Yums!! Have a fabulous week.

brit, i had to find it when i saw that mary and jada were going to be doing ads for them. i wanted to see them all in their natural beauty =) until now, i hadn't tried the products either. it seems that the mango and almond scents are most popular. i hope you have a fabulous week as well!

I wanted so badly to like the Carol's Daughter products, but really, I am underwhelmed by them. I've got a jar of the Mimosa Hair Honey, and it smells marvelous, but just doesn't work on my daughter's hair (or on mine before I locked up) and the other products just don't excite me. I visit the CD section every time I'm in Sephora hoping I'll be moved, but so far, no dice.

I haven't tried carol's daughter yet but i've heard great things about them and my roomie loves the stuff...if I was to start out with their line, what would you suggest? I have dry skin by the way.

@ nerd girl: i'm sorry about your disappointment with the line. i guess the saying holds true, 'what works for one, may not work for another.' thanks for sharing your review!

@ makeupbyrenren: ren, i think it depends on how dry your skin is and your regimen. from what i've tried so far of the line, the products have not been the best used alone to combat my severe dryness. however, i plan to see how they fare when i try either my moisturizing soap or drops of oil in the bath, etc. from what i'm hearing, start with the almond scented products. they seem to be most popular and really get people into the line. i hope that helps!

I'm with Keshajo; I want to try the new Carol's Daughter stuff, but it's chock-a-block full of ingredients like wheat germ oil. I like Carol's Daughter, but my immune system does not. Still, I'll have to head to Sephora soon to check out the latest CD stuff.

@ vanessa: they picked a great name huh? very similar to petroleum jelly though without the stickiness and layer of grease.

@ mandypandy: you know, i never thought of all of this before keshajo mentioned it! i used to be afraid of certain vitamin supplements because of the all natural ingredients that i thought would flare my allergies, but it never occured to me that the same things for 'all natural' etc would cross over into the cosmetics. thanks to you and keshajo for keeping me aware. i have allergies so horribly that it's hard to keep up on what's bothering me or not. i know some perfumes can send me to a sinus attack and knock me out.

I use the unscented body jelly every night. The weather is really drying my skin, so its been helping. Plus, it's unscented, so it doesn't clash with my perfume.

thanks marleaux for sharing. i'm glad it works for you!

I sooo want to like Carol's Daughter but I can't get with the smell. It's a little too strong.

@ eb the celeb: i think i'm a fan of the souffle's. since i only have a small jar, i didn't want to use it on my whole body, but i did (instead of just my hands) and it was a nice feel. i think the mango scent might work for me.

@ afrodite: i understand. many of the products have strong smells like incense to them. not my cup of tea.
