I <3 Mattes!

Hi! I'm still around. I haven't really posted all week, but I'm back. It's 4th of July and I have a little time. No patriotic post for me today, but a post nonetheless.

Today's post is about mattes.... starting this venture in makeup, I was attracted to most sparkly things, sparkly shadows, lip glosses, powders, you name it, i sparkled in it! However, I started to notice that when I took pictures... the sparkle that I saw didn't translate so well in my pictures. My highlighted cheeks and t-zone looked sweaty, my sparkly eyes looked washed out and I couldn't tell what color I actually had on...my lips looked great though, lol.

When looking at other pictures of makeup, all of the vivid colors that I wanted on my eyes turned out to be mattes! I didn't care for mattes because they seemed so one dimensional, didn't shimmer when I turned to the left and didn't look another color when I turned to the right. I learned to appreciate and love mattes. In pictures, mattes absorb light (the flash), while shimmery, frosty colors reflect the light. Now, I'm loving mattes or any colors with minimal sparkles. I haven't given up on shimmery colors, but I think they look best with no flash, a flash setting that is low and natural light (not direct sunlight). I hope to learn more about makeup and photography soon!

MAC has released some new mattes in its Pro collection. There are more due out in the Fall! Yippee!

Here's my fotd from yesterday:
(yes folks, I finally did it! I took the big chop-- my hair! my hair! lol)

::FACE::
Milani bronzer all over
concealer
cheeks- clinique's shimmer powder in Bare bronze

Loreal voluminous mascara... (it is the bomb like everyone says!)

Taking a break from cooking. Love the eye game and the new hair. Must be tres low maintenance. I am looking forward to see the new mattes. I love the shimmery. Matte does not have the color payoff for me. I have been layering my lid with matte (on the bottom) and a shimmer on the top.

Ok, I am bummed about wondergrass. It shows a tad bit darker on me even though I use light eye prep and frost fluidline as bases. I had to go to MAC dealer and get Eyepopping. Hopefully, I will get the desired look with the mix.

Have a happy 4th of July. Holla @ ya girl.

Matte colors do show up better in pictures, but I think in real-life, shimmery colors are more visually appealing.

Happy 4th of July!

You look gorgeous honey! Love the hair and the makeup is beautiful! Yes, matte may not seem as fun as shimmery shades but they definitely look better in pictures. You got the right idea - mixing matte textures with shimmery ones gives more depth and you'll look luminous rather than sweaty!

That eyeshadow is beautiful. I wish I had eyes like that (with a deep crease) so my shadow could be defined. Good job!

Your hair also looks so cute Kia! Very sophisticated yet spunky!

Anyway, I am now looking at my mattes with a new appreciation. I haven't been into mattes for a few years but still have a bunch that I'll need to retry again. BTW, do you use Moth Brown alot? I am still kicking myself for not getting it!

hey karen,
I find that it's one of my run to crease colors...twinks is another color like mothbrown that gives me a soft but visible crease color that can be coordinated with many shadow colors... so in all... go get it karen! it's great and still on MAC's website!
