Have a great weekend!

So I spent about 30 minutes or more at the mall picking out a new nose ring... Small, flat, round or square, silver setting or gold, comparing them, bone (barbell) or hooked bottom, skinny or thick gauge.... Yeh and the chosen one looks just like the one I already had in my nose!

AnywayzZ, just wanted to say I love y'all and have an awesome weekend!

P.s. I'm loving Guess by Marciano fragrance. It's (an oldie, but goody)warm and delish. This one will have the guys drooling!

Peacock Glitter Liner Pencil

I got MAC's glitter liner set a couple of holidays collections ago. I wasn't as into them as I thought I was then... Now? It's all love, especially Peacock glitter liner. A nice subdued turquoise with sky blue sparkles or a lighter turquoise sparkle... eeh doesn't matter. I love this liner! I did a look with it recently, but it was my predictable, soft smoked eye with this liner, lining the bottom lid.

Do you have this? Any of the glitter liners? What do you think of them?

Milani's Totally Cool Polish

An oldie, but goody. It's pretty cool. Purple base with pink and gold glitter (duochrome?) Awesome in dim light (no dim light pics, but it's sparkling jewels in a pool of royal arabian purple waters), a warm gold sheen in direct light!

layered with milani's purple/pink metallic liner, gesso e/s on her inner corner, black liner on her waterline and outer corner of upper lid
ardell false lashes

brows: boy girl brow set *my fave* and the lighter brown color of the wet n wild brow palette (please don't ask what happened to her left/our right brow. i was in VERY low light doing her makeup.. forgot my lamp =( but i think that helped me to gauge the intensity of which i needed to apply the makeup for the club scene! ;)

Haiti Needs Our Help!

Natural disaster knows no names... New Orleans, El Salvador, the Samoas, the Philippines (to name a few) and now Haiti. We'll never know the true devastation because we aren't there, but I'm glad to know that people are doing things to help out.

In the DC area alone (even celebs at the BET Honors held in DC spoke of ways they are contributing to the effort to help Haiti) the city was filled with social outings that would give aid to Haiti. I love seeing people coming together for an important cause!

Click here to find out more information about Friday's Hope for Haiti and the Telethon hosted by Wyclef and George Clooney. Here's a list of even more ways you can help!

p.s. I hope you all enjoyed your King Holiday by remembering the legacy of Dr. King and how he contributed to this country all before being assasinated at the tender age of 39. I took the kiddos to the Smithsonian American History Museum. We participated in a mock lunch counter sit-in training. I was also happy to see African American culture dispersed throughout the different exhibits in the museum.

Meagan I need that lip color!

I don't have that perfect skin and complexion to go with it, but that's okay. That's all. Thanks to Black Style Central!

Orly Mint Mojito under Wet N Wild Morbid

No, I didn't do this myself. I had to beg the nail tech to try something other than my solid polish. She was super hesitant. For crissakes, it's an elongated french manicure style, if you will.
Ehh good enough. Man, next time I want my moon and tip polished (3 layer color).. smch I guess I will really need to do it myself!

Pretty Committee Glitter Look!

The Pretty Committee met up this past weekend at the same place we first met over a year ago, Co Co Sala! For this night out I wanted to try a look that I've been waiting to experiment with... word to the wise: don't experiment before rushing out of the door!

Anyhoo I did a more or less dramatic glitter look thanks to these two: Pixiwoo and Aziajs. Here's the glitter I used: MAC's Jewelmarine and Sally's Girl Lavish Lavendar (sooo pretty! Like a fairy's wings! Something like Scrangie's RBL nail polish, but with a more amethyst base than blue.)
Here's blurred swatch of the Sally's Lavish Lavendar glitter.

Now, on to the look:

Ok, so this definitely wasn't a Pixiewoo or Face from Aziajs, but it was fun working with the glitter, lashes and Lavendar Whip!
**The kid told me I looked like the Avatar girl! LOL**
(All MAC unless stated otherwise)
Face:
Mineralized Satinfinish Fdtn NC37
Milani pressed powder foundation Natural
Eyes:
Painterly paint pot-base
Green from Wet N Wild's Pride palette-inner lid
Two smokey colors from Sleek's Graphite palette-rest of the lid and crease
Violet pigment-above the crease and lower lid
Glitters: Jewelmarine and Sally's Girl Lavish Lavendar- crease, lid and lower lid
Lashes, Ardell Fantasy? (Halloween lashes)
Cheeks:
MAC On a Mission Blush
Lips:
Lush n Lilac cremestick lip liner
Lavendar Whip lipstick

Victoria's Secret Pro Camouflage FX Concealer Palette

(pic source)

How did I go so long without a concealer/corrector palette? I had my own little personal Bobbi Brown palette, but that's wasn't enough. One definitely belonged in the pro kit. This Victoria's Secret Pro Camouflage Palette saved the day! I love this stuff. I once had one of MUFE's corrector palettes. No bueno for me. It was so creamy it wouldn't stay in place! Even after setting it, the concealer and powder curdled under my eyes. It's probably best for mature skin, but not for me. The VS palette has a great stiff consistancy (great for those with oily skin). I'm so happy to have this and it's definitely Yummy411 approved! You have a great chance of finding it in the store; I can't find it on the VS site =(

**Update 4/06/2010: This can be found in VS stores now, $18!!**

MAC's Mocha Blush

MAC's description: "soft plum pink." Matte.

Swatched with other blushes for comparison, l-r: Prism, Mocha, and Harmony
You can see a hint of Mocha blush on my cheeks in this photo. I also used Sunny By Nature MSF as an all over face powder/cheek color.

This is a great subtle, neutral, soft cheek color in the pink family. Great for every day wear. Aziajs wears this a lot also.

New Wet N Wild Eye Shadow Palettes, Lipstick, Polish January

Hey family!
I stopped reading other people's blogs to update mine! Ha!

I haven't see these items on the blogs I read, so I decided to show you what I found in my neck of the woods. I was making a mad dash to Rite Aid to pick up some disposables for a gig and I spotted this: new Wet N Wild eye shadow palettes and a collection with new lipsticks and polish. Sorry for not getting a full shot, but the display was right across from the registers and I didn't want to seem stalkerish... I haven't been feeling too paparazzi lately.

Great! These ColorIcon palettes, are so much cuter than their old Ultimate Expressions palettes (which I believe these are called as well). They retail $4.99... ehhh. However, these were 40% off, woo hoo! I grabbed two- Pride and Greed (2nd and 4th palettes). What's up with the names? Lust is the third palette and Vanity, perhaps is the first palette. The names totally don't match the promo image.

I love little collection releases, but these pink and red lipsticks and polishes weren't enticing enough for me to grab any. The polishes were $1.99, not too sure about the price of the lipsticks. Maybe when I'm in the mood for a Valentine's FOTD, these might come in handy! **Edited: Interested in a review of the lipstick and nail polish? Check out Nouveau Cheap's post!

Artificial light, flash.. nevermind that. You get the picture right? This is the Pride palette.

SWATCHES! So this particular palette has the same three colors in a matte finish and a shimmer finish. This is not the case for all of the palettes. Sorry, I haven't used the other palette yet, so I didn't swatch it.

Included in the palette is a little brush and a little sponge applicator. As you would expect, the brush is useless, but a cute attempt. The colors are nice, but I'm undecided on how I feel about them. Decent color and pigmentation for Wet N Wild, but I feel I've had better shadows from them. The mattes (like the green) I noticed oxidized a bit, (kinda like MUFE) so either you don't mind or should use a more opaque, colored base with them than what I used which was MAC's Painterly paintpot.

Have you seen these or tried them?
p.s. Jamez, over the holidays I found the Santa Baby palette at my CVS!

Cantu Shea Butter Hair Dressing Pomade

My hair is naturally a dusty brown as my older sister has programmed into my head. A brown that looks dry, without lustre, lacking moisture... you get my drift, right? To cure this problem, I started with rinses (semi-permanent hair color) in high school and bumped up to full permanent hair color in college. Give me any color but my own! When I started locking, I didn't foresee this as a problem.

I noticed my locks seemed dry and not lustre-filled as I've seen on others. (I'm not in search of shiny locs; no such thing exists!) I condition them after cleaning them, I've tried a clear rinse on them (to promote shine), various sheen sprays, serums and oils. Nothing seemed to last or do the trick. Am I doomed until I'm ready for more permanent hair color? I avoided hair color in the early stages of locking because I was advised that the chemical process would make it harder for my hair to loc. Also, I know dye is harsh on hair and can cause dryness without proper care.

My sister asked me if I greased my hair. Huh? I use oils and sprays. I don't like grease from my relaxed days. I needed grease when my hair was relaxed as nothing else would keep it controlled and moisturized. However, that would lead to heavy, dirtier hair faster. I definitely didn't want that with my locks! DING! I have the hair type that NEEDS grease. It eats up any moisture. Grease would keep my hair from looking like the Sahara Desert with tumble weed.

I picked up the closest product still available as I don't indulge in too many hair care products anymore. Cantu Shea Butter Hair Dressing Pomade ($3-4) was on hand. Nice smell and the consistency was thick enough to satisfy my taste. The pomade is clear/cloudy white in color. Decent results. My hair wasn't shining, but my hair wasn't terribly thirsty either. I felt a bit of tack; it is a pomade. Maybe I was trying to slightly saturate my hair? I would buy this again, but a product junkie is always on the prowl.

Do you grease your locs? Do you have my hair type? What product do you like best to give your locs some lustre?

A Brown Girl's BFF- MAC's Sweet as Cocoa Blush

MAC describes Sweet As Cocoa (a sheertone shimmer blush) as brown with pearl
flash
no flash

Sweet As Cocoa is the perfect bronzed brown with a delicate shimmer that's a goldy pink. Not a pink with a rosy tint (like our other friend Format blush) but gives everyone a blushed glow. Every brown girl with this blush on, I always seem to compliment with the same idea in mind... 'She must be wearing Sweet As Cocoa.' I'm usually right. It's a brown girl's BFF!

Do you have this? Is it one of your BFF's (brown girl or not!)?

HAPPY HOLIDAYS AND UPDATES

Hey guys!
I hope you all have enjoyed your holidays and ushered in the new year safely. My holiday was peaceful and enjoyable. I haven't posted much over the holidays because I have kept busy. However, I still wanted to update you guys on a couple of things:

My new nails: rounded nails ,the moons are painted with 1 coat of Sinful's Dream on...the newer version-D02/D04
(needed 2/3 coats, but this was a new challenge for the nail tech =p )
1 coat of Maybelline's Pot of Gold over Cleopatra

*An alternative to Maybelline's P.O.G., try Sally Girl new Chunky Gold Glitter polish

An FOTD and newest fave blush I didn't do any special looks over the holidays, but the FOTD that I wore most while running my errands was this one- neutrals with a blue liner on my waterline. The blush that's stolen my heart is MAC's Blushbaby. Such a sweet, innocent blush for every day wear. Someone long ago recommended it on the blog, but then I wasn't interested in shy, subtle blush tones then. Now, I'm all over it ;)

Nevermind my dry lips plz ;( And why do I refuse to use brow gel??

Random cute pics of the sis/Teen Yummy411 She's diggin those huge nerd glasses and her Mp3 player (the one that she got about 3 years ago and never used. Go figure.)

The kidYum admires his aunt and all things 'teenager'. He loves that she goes to a military school and wants to practice twirling guns and gun salutes *crosses eyes* I knew he'd flip over her glasses, so he got a pair of his own. This is on Christmas day. We went to see the Princess and the Frog. 'Son, you have to take off your glasses inside so you can see.' =p

HAPPY 2010!!
