Proenza Pink, puke pink

The new Lancome limited edition lipstick has been a love it or hate it cult item. I would try it. It may not work on me, I don't know, but it looks fun for a night out...

Highlighters, Shimmers, and Bronzers

(photo: The Body Shop)
I am totally addicted to shimmering bronzers and highlighting powders. Always trying to achieve the dewy, iridescent glow, I have a fewcurrently in rotation:

* MAC Mineralizing Skinfinish Powders in Shimpagne and Shooting Star

*MAC Beauty Powder in Pearl Blossom

*jane. bronzers in Tahitian Glow, Peony (and two others)

*newly acquired Milani Glimmer Stripes All Over Color in Cocoa, Honey, Terra Cotta, Berry, and Bronze. They are all so gorgeous and SO glad they finally made it to my neck of the woods. I snatched up all of the colors, but one....

"If I could look ethereal all the time I would!"- I read this on a blog, but can't remember which one. I'm in total agreement. Give me a fairy's glow and sit me on cloud 9 =)

Rich Hippie Hoochie Coochie

I was over at NowSmellThis, when I came across this (our titled item):
(photo: nowsmellthis.com)

"with the uplifting scent of Hoochie Coochie on your wrists it will be hoochie coochie on your mind..."

Is this a joke? Are they serious? Caught by the name? Okay Jimi Hendrix fans, but naming a perfume? It gets worse:

"Hoochie Coochie is $325 for 15 ml of perfume oil, or $35 for a sample. "

LOL... many people over at NowSmellThis thinks this is totally ridiculous as well.

P.s. Congrats to Robin K for her spotlight in Glamour mag!

Daddy's Little Girls

When I first saw the trailer for this, I knew it was a must see movie. How could you resist the story of a hard working, black dad, trying to make a difference in the lives of his daughters? Complete oxymorons on the silver screen.
Tyler Perry did an excellent job with this movie. He removed his faithful character Madea that he portrays, to keep himself from in front of the camera. All of the characters and their lines were real and believable. Many lines and emotions depicted on the screen were ones that we've heard before, said before or could relate to. If you saw the movie (this won't ruin it for people whom have not) think of the church scene with Bishop Eddie Long (I will be listening to him more often), the conversation Julia has on the phone with her friend about the difficulties in finding a 'qualified' black man, or I loved how Tyler pulled the movie together, with each scene being succinct and to the point. Some may feel that this made scenes/the movie under-developed, but for me it worked to move the movie along. He drove home his message of community, loyalty and the male role model in this lovable film. As a side note, one or two scenes in the movie stretched the idea to complete this film, making it hard to suspend disbelief. In the end, all was great!
The real stars of the movie were the three little girls, whom are real sisters. I hope I have such luck with my offspring, lol! Landing movies together? What a hot package!
Since this is a beauty blog I should mention the makeup that I noticed. Nothing spectacular. Just good, quality, glowing natural makeup on all actors/actresses. The makeup director in this film is Ghanaian born, Matiki Anoff. She has worked with Tyler Perry's crew before in Diary of a Mad Black Woman. Other film credits under her belt are: The Notebook, 8 Mile and Stuart Little.
Noteworthy: Melinda Williams was chic and sophisticated in every appearance, as she played assistant to lawyer Julia (Gabrielle Union). Her wardrobe was impeccable, as was Gabrielle Union's.

HAPPY VALENTINES DAY

I've done a good job of avoiding most holidays, but I'm a sucker for Valentine's Day, even though I don't have a Valentine...

In light of this fact, that I am an unpaired person that loves this holiday, but starts to feel bad because all of the advertising doesn't pertain to people without a valentine, (takes a breath) I want to present an award to Bath&Body Works. Why you ask? For being the Store with the Most Over the Top Valentine's Day Decorations. As I was out, enjoying my mall walk and luckily being able to pick up the boots of my desire, I walked past B&BW. It seemed to have been bleeding at the door hinges! Red, red and some pink all over in decorations and products. That made me thoroughly disgusted! As if the the workers wanted to say, "Special holiday products that aren't for you!!! Nan nan-ee boo boo!"

Anyhoobs, here are some of the great gifts they have:

True Blue SpaSweet Escape, $16.50; C.O. Bigelow™Pampered Pet, $12.50; AromatherapySensuality Bath - Sensuality - Jasmine Vanilla, $34; Bath & Body Works Signature Collection™Bath for Two - Japanese Cherry Blossom, $98

On my wishlist I had a box of Godiva G spot chocolates. Not B&BW, but something I wanted nonetheless!

For all of the unpaired people like me, here's something just for you... dumpcupid.com!

Danse-ing Around

I was supposed to give an update of my Raquel Welch Icon collection makeover from MAC. Well, I didn't have one because my ultra-fav MA stood me up. That's right. I sat there at the counter looking like a lost puppy refusing help because I wanted this one person to help me. He never showed. So I made my own resolution. Instead of looking for guidance from someone else, I'll from now on get my hands dirty and practice on myself.

Despite my dismay with the Danse collection, being a MAC addict, I still bought quite a few items from the collection. Here are some photos where I've use the Danse quad: (photo: beautysource.vox.com)
light pink- vapour
lavender- leap
turquoise- footwork
grey/slate color- terre a terre

Please don't look at my crummy skin, I only did my eyes. Vapour as the brow highlight, terre a terre in my crease, vapour in my inner corner, footwork in the center lid, and leap on the outer corners. Earthline liner and combination mascaras.

Black History Month: Cosmetics for Women of Color

While being African American celebrates my past, present and future everyday, February is especially designated as Black History Month. To help celebrate, I will bring you a cosmetic brand that targets women of color (but of course, made for everyone.) The establishment of cosmetic lines for women of color is a cultural advancement, celebrating our history and our beauty!

Black Opal Beauty

Black Opal is a leading skincare and color cosmetics line specifically designed to address the unique skincare needs of women and men of color. Created in 1994 by BioCosmetic Research Labs, Black Opal was developed with the consultation of Dr. Cheryl Burgess, an African-American dermatologist who had spent years treating troubled skin and seeing the inadequacy of over-the-counter skincare products available for black skin.
Black Opal's results-oriented approach offers scientifically proven formulations, including skincare and color cosmetics for women and men's shaving products, that set the standard for quality products at an affordable price.
About Cheryl Burgess:Dr. Cheryl Burgess is a Board certified dermatologist with a successful practice in Washington, D.C. Under development for more than 5 years, Dr. Burgess has helped to create a complete line of treatment products along with BioCosmetic Research Labs to address the problems specific to African American skin care and. Called Black Opal, it is the first scientifically advanced skin care line especially formulated for sensitive ethnic skin. There are four basic skin types:
Dry- tends to be ashy, dull and feels tight- especially after cleansing. Pores are fine.
Normal- in balance. Smooth and moist. Pores are not clogged. Seldom breaks out.
Oily to blemish prone- appears shiny all over. If blemish prone there will be clogged pores and breakouts. Makeup may not last on this skin or may change colors.
Combination skin- will be oily in the "T" zone- forehead, nose, inner cheek and chin. Outside the zone it will be normal or dry.

New Tech: iPhone vs. LG KE850

All the rave has been about the new iPhone. However, the LG phone was released before the iPhone and has even won an award for best design.
What do you think?

I might be in the market for the LG (I'm sure it would be cheaper.)
