Yummy411: MAC Matte Product Review

Remember I had this convo with MAC Chat Live about MAC Matte?

Well, I'm over due for my review about it. Why you ask? I'm not overly excited nor underwhelmed by it. It's okay, but I need MORE to control the oil on my nose (I believe my nose is protecting itself since I always have allergies! LOL)

Here's what they say:
"A matte-ifying cream that acts like a powder, M·A·C Matte adds a sheer, no-shine matte texture in one smooth layer. May be used on bare or made-up skin. Use a latex sponge or a 252 Large Shader Brush to apply over the entire face or in the T-zone to reduce the appearance of shine. Apply M·A·C Matte after moisturizer, but before foundation to prime the skin for makeup. Studio Fix Powder Plus Foundation applies smoothly and effortlessly over top of M·A·C Matte. Apply M·A·C Matte to eyelids before applying Eye Shadow or Paints to help increase the longevity of the makeup and reduce creasing. "

Here's what I say:
Most of what they say is correct. It seems that they are making a recommendation to use the product with Studio Fix Powder Plus Foundation. I tried this formula on my friend that uses Studio Fix Powder and after a couple of hours (3-4) she had an oily nose. On eyelids, I can't personally vouch for it. However, I did hear about this product first from Apple Diva as she uses it on her lids to control oil and for the longevity of her shadows. For me, under and over my liquid foundations (but under a setting powder) I have a short period of time before my nose shines, which means I would still need to carry blot powder. I need a powerful look using as few products as possible... I would recommend this product for those with (little to no oil) combination skin type, teens and guys (I used this on an all guy photoshoot!) that want a bit of help with shine, but don't want to wear makeup.

EDIT:
Danyelle reminded me that it does control shine and gives a natural dewy look, but my feeling is that it's not perfect for eliminating shine all day (is there such miracle?) as touch ups with blot powder (or sheets) would be necessary through out the day.

  1. Hmp, interesting. I re-bought my matte gel on saturday so I could put it to the test wearing it underneath my Studio Tech at church. I do have sort of a combo skin, a lil more oily than dry- depending on the time of day. But anyway, I really like studio tech, but I tend to get oily after a couple of hours, usually by the time I get out of church. But not today! Im proud to say that I'm not oily, but not totally matte. Its just the right amount of shine, ahem "glow" :) I think Ima keep it this time....

  2. danyelle! yes i do believe that it controls shine, giving you that dewy look that's good (esp. on men!) so that you still look natural, but but.. in real life i guess i look fine, but in my pics or in even in the mirror, my nose is still shiny =( i'm so glad you had success with it though!

hey did you ever do a cool heat look? i wanna see!

when your post have click to read more at the end i click expecting to read more about the post, not the more to be just comments cause i can just read the comments separately if i wanted to. i am not saying i don't like the read more link, just if you are going to have it cut the post and place the click to read more earlier. that way there will be more than comments to read. i know this is your blog, and i do not have an issue with your post itself just what i just wrote, and if u dont change it that is fine and i will still come back like i always do. thanks

  6. I'm intrigued by this since i have oil slicks for eyelids. The only time I don't have that issue is when I wear shadows but I don't wear eyeshadow everyday so by mid day I have a line of oil just chilling on my eyelid. I may check this out.

  9. Ugh, no not yet.... Sad I know. I hardly ever wear makeup these days, I moisturize and go everyday 'cept for sundays, in which I don't even wear color on the lids. When I do, I'll be sure to shoot you some pics. Promise *virtual pinky hook* :)

Oh and I'm applying to Howard COM so maybe I'll be able to make one of those pretty committee meetings...

  10. Dude, you should try uhm. Cargo's Blu Ray Mattifyer. It kicks ass. Keeps my face matte for about 7-8 hours, and my nose stays matte for about 4 hours [that's a record]. And for touch ups I use Urban Decay's De-Slick Mattifying Powder [its the BEST]. You'd probably like it.
