Yummy411: Drugstore Beauty- New from Loreal

Well, Saturday was laid back and quiet- rare, sad for a 20 something, but great for someone who's always on the go. Being beauty fanatic, a trip to the drugstore can be a treat, LOL (sad I know!) I like to scour the beauty sections at drugstores, to see what's new, see what's BOGO, see which drugstore has what's new or a good stock in whichever lines they carry, etc. or better yet, which CVS has a beauty center!

Well, imagine my excitement last night when FINALLY I see new beauty displays for my fav Loreal HIP and other Loreal goodies. (To the left and don't laugh at my cam phone pics, I was excited and had to share!) I guess the Loreal Star Secrets have been a hit. The series became more notable when it came out with the Star Secrets lipsticks. This time those same stars have their own shadow. Nothing to make me jump out of my seat, but it's something new! MAC is putting a lot of pressure on other makeup lines. While I don't want be force-fed something new every other day, waiting for a new season or holiday to arrive is like waiting on death!

Retail price for these: ???

Then the real drooling started to happen. New glosses from HIP- Shine Struck Liquid Lipcolor!!!!! (to the left) Look at that ad photo! How gorgeous!!! I'm so excited about these new lip colors, since I really wanted an opaque, vibrantly colored gloss that did the job of a lipstick and gloss. The shades are nice especially the color shown on the model (#13 from the right, can't remember the name, is the shade she's wearing and it's looks duochrome in the bottle!) There's nothing on the site about it, so I can't use them to recall. The colors seem to be universal, a great range so that everyone can find something that they like.

OK seriously, that's a simply gorgeous photo! Looks easily enough to replicate right?

I closed my lips when I saw the price point. HIP needs their own place at a counter... Hmmm. I'll pick them up from ULTA, when I have a coupon or at least when I'm not on a
household pickup at the drugstore.
Retail price: $11.99

It was only a matter of time before we would see these- Cream Shadow Paints!! We've seen the MAC dupes of their shadow, cream pots, crayon color stick, colored liners, etc. Now we have the paints.

Keeping up with their customer given nickname "Poor girl's MAC" you still need a MAC budget to shop the line. They are pricey to just pick up and 'test'. I'm not feeling too proud anymore about returning items as I used to be, as I shop the drugstore beauty aisle as much as a counter. As we know, returns can be a bit uncomfortable. The cashier asked me "What's wrong with it?" while returning a product. I should have told her the truth- there's no way to try a product without buying it! Speaking of which, next time I might try that and see if the drugstores catch on.

Retail price: as you can see, $11.99 for these as well.

I mentioned above that I like opaque, vibrantly colored glosses that double up for a lipstick and gloss... Well, I found one that I've been raving about. I have it in my hands now, so I can blog about it! Yippee! Stay tuned!

  1. Happy Sunday Mama Yums!

L'Oreal is THE BEST!! Looking at those new lines coming out you seriously do need a MAC budget to shop it. They are really stepping up to the plate though. Thanks for sharing the info. Now trips to the drugstore are EVEN MORE exciting!

  5. Oh I envy you for having the HiP paints. Canadians (at least Vancouverites) don't have 'em. I've been scanning my drugstore for weeks now. LOL. You're right that the price of some d/s items are getting quite pricey and for another buck or two you could get a h/e item.

  9. I love L'Oreal's H.I.P line. I have one shade called "darling" and it's just that!

@Divine Blackness...I miss not living close to a Walgreens...they used to have the best cosmetic sales. Duane Reade and CVS aren't as good with their buy one get one promotions (except for Maybelline's mascaras).

  10. I saw those lipgloss new from HIP and thought that price was ridiculous! 11.99! at CVS? But...they didn't look very inticing to buy! lol! Waiting for your review on them...

  12. Hey yums, I posted some info on the locs in the comment on my blog but I left something out so I came over here to let you know that I don't have any consistent products that I use for my locs. Like this week was just the lottabody spray and next week might be a honey, aloe vera gel, and olive oil mixture LOL. Those front locs are difficult ones for me too, so what I do is just retwist them when need and take a old wet tooth brush and "brush" the hair together and retwist because I have a lot of loose hair that could probably be it's own loc if I let it, but I don't want another lil baby loc. I have two right now on the left side that can finally can be tucked behind the ear, so I keep tucking it in with it's next door neighbor. :)

  13. You're camera phone takes better pictures than my new (but old) camera. Wanna switch, lol?

I really want try the lipgloss is 'Reserved'. I'll check Ulta tomorrow and see if these have arrived there yet; to my knowledge, they and the Cream Shadow Paints have not. I've already bought and tried the Paint (in 'Nervy') and have to admit, it's a decent product. It lasted several hours before wearing off evenly and did not crease at all (everything creases on my oily lids). That said, it stung and irritated like hell so I had to return it. Yes, I too am a serial returner; no shame in that!

mandypandy?? where is the review of the HIP paints?? well, you gave me a mini review here, so i'll accept that ;) thanks for putting me in the know. what did you think of the color? did you layer it with a shadow? was it easy to apply or apply evenly with the little brush?

i'm so glad we share the principle of return!!

@ nilla cookie: omg! really? omg!! i'm going to check it out now.. THANKS!!!

  17. awww lilan thanks so much! your makeup is gorgeous as well... good luck! she was offering up some MAC so i had to enter LOL!

  18. Lol, patience, grasshopper! The HiP Paint review is forthcoming, as are reviews of Light Flush and Maybelline's new makeup line.

Well, returning isn't so much a principle for me as it is a necessity; if I won't/can't use something, I'm not paying for it or keeping it with me. Waste of money, waste of space, really.

I think that there would be fewer returns if retailers were be more forthcoming with testers and samples. I'd pay for samples, just to avoid constantly making returns.

  19. Great post! I love the Hip line too! I have a few of the Hip Duo shadows and they are great. The Star Secrets line looks like a winner too. I'm so glad that you shared with us...camera phone pics and all! LOL

  20. @ mandypandy: LOL! patient i shall be =)) can't wait to read the reviews...

i hate returns now, but hey, like you said, i don't want to keeep something that i don't want or need.

@ baby doll: yay! i'm glad you liked the post! do you have a favorite HIP shadow, gloss, or any other product? i want something else but would rather go off of a recommendation.

  23. Between you and someone I've been talking with on youtube, it's as if me saving money from not buying MAC doesn't matter cause then I just spend it on other brands. lol I've been wanting to try Loreal's HIP products for a while now but have been really wary about spending that much money on something and not know if it will work for what it's worth...ARRRGGHH! I'm going to be broke for the rest of my life! :D

  24. i totally understand! you know i do, but hey..... you can always return!

  26. Hey sis...I enjoyed this post as well. I really enjoyed all of the feedback from your readers. I may have to run on over to the store to check it out. You know that the HIP line is my make up counter at the drugstore....LOL! We'll talk about these soon. TTYL. Smooches!!

  27. @ home spa goddess: ggggrreat! i can't wait to see the video!

@ antoinette: i know! you turned me on to the liquid foundations! thanks for dropping a line!

  28. i love Loreal HiP line, especially when its BOGO Free lol, i tend to go online and compare CVS, Rite Aid and Walgreens, sometimes 2 out of 3 will have BOGO free sales or BOGO 50% off. As far as the cream paints go, I have Witty and it helped my shadows stay vibrant and crease free over 10hrs :) Its best if u try to purchase Loreal at CVS for the simple fact that if you have the CVS card, you get coupons with your receipts. So u get your BOGO Free and then sometimes $4 off a $20 purchase! Im all about a sale girl :) TTYL

  29. SIDENOTE...if you can help it, don't buy makeup at drugstores. They're also prone to carry expired products. I know from experience. If they're manager isn't up-to-date on their inventory database, you may find some surprising friends hiding out inside that new tube of lipstick. Yes makeup can carry bacteria and it can mold!
They also up the retail price a tad bit to make up for their small supply. Just a little something I learned as a retail manager. Try shopping for your favorite retail makeup at places like Tarjeh & Wal-Mart...they definitely have a more realistic price tag and the items are purchased more frequently. Maybe it's only a dollar difference, but hey we're in a recession!
Oh yeah...and I love HIP & the Loreal True Match...it's the bomb! I tried that Hyperreal from MAC, not impressed! My Creme Cafe does a much better job! And you know what, I can't stand the Queen Collection by Latifah...it's so Fashion Fair 2008! (YUCK!)
